Violence in Cat
cats and dogs
mostly said to be serene pets. Many people presume that if a cat is provided with food, drink, and a sleeping shelter then it will stay obedient and friendly to its owners while exhibiting the typical feline autonomy.

Not all cats are identical. Cats have different personalities, just like men. One cat might be cuddlesome and easygoing, and on the other hand another cat might be so uptight that the owners give up sleep for the cat is relentlessly bouncing off the walls. provided that it is suitable to the owners, there is not a difficulty regarding varying personalities amid cats.

One personality attribute that majority owners aren’t willing to compromise with is aggressive tendencies within cats. Dogs can escape with such personalities since some owners in fact want a dog to be cruel and able to scare people. Cats, conversely, are usually brought into a home so as to protect the family. hence, ferociousness is not a attribute that cat owners search for.

Aggressive cats can bring about a reasonable bit of injury because of their promptness and nimbleness very rapidly.

chiefly cats become fierce due to some or the other type of cruelty. Felines that have been besieged by a vicious 0preceding owner might turn aggressive as a part of self-preservation.

What to do if your cat is getting agitated? Initially, start reading books on cat mannerisms. Cats will give signs which will indicate the time for you to back off. Be kind and express tenderness in order that your pet learns to have faith in you, and spend quality playing time together to boost your attachment.

Having Cats as Pets
cats and dogs
Animals are sometimes a better and a more loyal friend than people. Many domestic animals like cats, dogs, cows and even smaller ones like fish have their own importance in many families. Among these, cats take a special place among the pet lovers. One of the basic reason for this is their tender skin and attractive looks.

A regular bathing, grooming of hairs, trimming of claws will pave the way for your pets and you to have a great relationship. One of the problems a cat can cause to its owner is that they leave their hairs everywhere which can induce some allergic reactions to some people. But cats are very sweet and the above problem can be reduced by frequent grooming. Cats can from time to time be a little bit wild and crazy, but try and be forgiving and if it cases problems, try to cuddle with your cat and calm him down.

Generally their behaviors are unpredictable and they rarely listen to orders. They are moody and they love to play with their owners all the time. They always wish to have the attention of their owners, and will often follow their owners where they might go in the house. Having a few toys for your cat to play with can keep them occupied when you have something important to do, or are trying to sleep.

Try to understand their moods and satisfy their needs. Provide them with a nutritious diet which contains meat and some greens and fresh water. Take them for regular checkups, as this will help keeping your cat healthy. Keep toxic items away from them since they are very sensitive to substances like insecticides, moth balls, phenol based substances.

Dog Training - Dog Bathing
cats and dogs
Dog bathing is a must when living with a dog. Dogs naturally get smelly and are not like cats in being able to wash themselves well and be hygienic, this is why dog owners have to look after their dogs hygiene for them once in a while.

Dog bathing should take place when your dog starts to smell or is very dirty, some breeds of dog find it very hard to keep smelling pretty as you will quickly come to notice. Running around every day rubbing yourself up against trees, bushes, benches and rolling around on grass or getting drenched head to paws in rivers or puddles are all common occurrences in a dogs life and all contribute to dog smelliness.

It is important to make sure you brush your dogs coat and fur through before every bathing session to remove all bits of debris that may have got caught up in your dog’s fur since their last bath along with tangles or matted hair that may have formed. If you ignore this step any tangles and matted hair will get worse after bathing and make it an impossible task to rid of them.

You will need to use special pet shampoo and conditioner to clean your dog; human shampoo uses a different ph level and can be bad for your dog’s skin. Starting off by letting your dog get used to running water, warm water should be used to wash your dog, it is best to use a jug or container to gently pour water on your dog. Be sure not to put water directly on your dogs face to be sure not to frighten them off or scare them.

When your dog is wet, keep reassuring them and rewarding them if the behaviour is good to get the message across that bathing is not a bad thing. Rub the shampoo and conditioner onto your dog gently and being sure to do a proper job of getting all the smells and everything else out.

To finish off, rinse all the soapy water and shampoo of your dog and dry your dog in the same way you would yourself or if your dog has easily matted hair use patting only to dry your dog, when this is all done reward your dog with praise and rewards for being cooperative with you.

How to Train a Cat
cats and dogs
How to train a cat is a small article on basic cat training.

Cats can be trained, as well as dogs. A cat can be trained to perform on cue. All successful animal training is accomplished through praise and food rewards.

Compare a cat and a dog ! A dog is built from nature to be a pack animal, which means – to be dominated by a higher ranking member of the pack (owner). On the contrary, cats being solitary predators (hunts for living), and will by nature avoid or attack those who show hostility towards them. (enemy or owner). The key thing in the training program is to spot the food treat immediately each time, it responds to a verbal cue from the owner, followed by a desired behavior, from the cat.

A cat should come, when called upon. This is of course basic feline training for cat-owners. Even though your cat is a “house” cat, it should always anyway master this simple etiquette.

Chose your lines, do the Kitty, Kitty, Kitty-line or simple call it by name. I prefer to call my cats by name. They are still part of the family. Call the cat before serving his most wanted meal a day and reward it for coming with a special food treat. (same training as with dogs and horses).

If your cat has a destructive scratching problem, it is very easy to solve. It is very easy to train a cat to scratch on a post. The scratching post must meet some basic criteria to be acceptable to the cat;

A) Dimensions should be right for cat size

B) Made of soft wood, not carpet

C) Mounted stable

It should be placed in front of the previous scratching target or offer – usually in a room where cat and family spends time together. To encourage the cat to use it, scratch on the post yourself with your nails and call the over. Praise the cat, whenever he uses the post.

It will soon become a natural habit for the cat.

Good Luck

Everything A New Cat Owner Needs To Know
cats and dogs
Before you look for a new cat, you should know what you are getting into. Cats are not animals that you can ignore. Unless your are prepared to spend time with them, do not get one. If you have never owned cats, you may not realize that they do certain cat things and need certain cat things. New and unsuspecting cat owners may be surprised when they find their cats regularly do the following.

1. Jump. Cats like to be in high places such as on top of your desk, bookcase, filing cabinet, sofa to watch people and events and gain information about people behavior.

2. Play. Cats need interaction with humans. Be prepared to spend time playing with and talking to your cat.

3. Scratch. Cats have to scratch. Rather than trying to prevent them, train them to use a scratching post and trim their claws regularly.

4. Vomit. While this may seem a bit something on the ill side it is not. Many cats constantly vomit or cough up hair balls and fur balls to clear their throat of them.

Where you live plays an important role in the feasibility of owning a cat, especially if you do not own your own home. Obviously, some landlords do not allow cats so look for apartments that do. One way to find out is to access the internet. You can do searches online for apartments that do allow cats. When you do find a place you want to live, ask yourself the following questions.

1. Does your apartment complex require declawing or require that cats are kept indoors only? If so, you could face unresolvable litter box problems that could eat up your security deposit and living options.

2. Is your apartment or house big enough for one or more scratching posts or litter boxes? Can it handle more litter boxes if a problem develops?

3. Are you on a quiet or a busy street? If you live in a congested area, your cat will face increased risks if he goes outdoors.

Shelters are the best place to find a cat. With thousands of cats being euthanized in your local cat shelters due to lack of homes, adoption is a responsible choice. Shelters put cats through adoption tests so your chance of finding a smart, loyal and appreciative cat is extremely high in practically any reputable shelter in the country.

Kittens less than eight weeks old are often cared for in a volunteer foster home until they are old enough to adopt. In these cases, the shelter may be able to give you an idea of the kitten’s personality and behavior. Try to locate a small, nonprofit cat shelter. Smaller shelters often do not cage or euthanize their cats. Many small shelters are run by people who will sacrifice everything to find homes for the cats they rescue.

At the shelter, you will find strays and unwanted cats and kittens that have been put up for adoption. Even after the stress of being captured, relocated and caged, stray cats can be trained to be well-behaved. If you are thinking of owning only one cat, try to find a cat who is used to being alone. This will probably be an adult. If you want a kitten, it is best to adopt at least two kittens so each will have a friend.

Dog Years Human Years
cats and dogs
The life expectancy of any dog is commonly expressed in terms of dog years by us and it depends entirely on the dog’s breed, size as well as the dog’s surroundings. Various other factors affect the life expectancy of a dog. A dog’s life span changes according to the diet provided to him and also by the number of medical problems the dog tends to face over the years.

The average life span of the small dog like Chihuahua is about 15 to 16 years, while medium sized the dogs like Border Collies have a life span of 10 to 13 years. It can be noticed big dogs like Great Dean live up to only 7 to 8 years. The calculation of the life expectancy of particular dog can be accurately done with the help of “size or the specific breed calculator”, which is said to be one of the most accurate age measurement schemes available. The size or specific breed calculator gives approximate results about the dog’s predictable lifespan based on the size as well as the breed of the dog.

It is generally assumed that, on an average, “one human year equals to seven dog years”. This statement may not be appropriate, since the first two years are jointly represented by 18-25 years in such schemes and because the entire ratio cannot be generalized for all the dogs though, they belong to different sizes and breeds. An exact ratio of dog years vs. human year cannot be formulated. However, some obvious features remain similar between both aging humans and dogs.

It is generally assumed that the human equivalent of a one-year dog is supposedly fully grown by both mental and physical aspects. Dogs like humans tend to develop advance muscular features as they grow along with a similar mental development. Through a major dog study, it has been estimated for dogs of all breeds and sizes that, nearly “64 percent of dogs” were euthanized because they were affected with some kind of diseases. Only 8 percent of the total dogs live beyond 15 years and nearly 16 percent of them die yearly due heart diseases and cancer. Human lives are not terminated even if they suffer from rare and incurable diseases; and this is the main reason why the lifespan of an average human being is reasonably long.

The effects of aging in dogs is said to be dormant for several years. But like humans, dogs to undergo physical changes as well. The first sign of aging in dogs is said to be the decrease in its activity levels. The sleeping period in these dogs also becomes longer. The canines experience a drastic change in their skin condition, limb usage, appetite and they experience tooth loss as well. Their sense of hearing and vision also diminishes gradually. Older dogs tend to experience stiffness in their body. All these obvious signs of aging can even be found in humans. The human years are extended only because of advance modern medicine and various other drugs that are designed to deal with symptoms of old age.

Dogs and humans may not have the same physiology, yet some obvious similarities can be noticed when both species age. Dog years and Human years may not be directly related by some advance equation, but to the naked eye the equivalence of corresponding features of Dog years and Human years are quite visible.

The Devon Rex Cat
cats and dogs
A breed with a very curly, soft coat Devon Rex resembles the Cornish Rex in many ways. In fact it was discovered just ten years after the latter, in the same British Isles. Devon Rex was first seen in a litter of kittens in Devonshire. The cute baby was thought to be a Cornish Rex and initially bred with Cornish females to supplement their limited population at that time. However, it soon became apparent that the gene responsible for Devon’s hair was different. Plus Devon had guard hair that the Cornish lacked, even as they were often sparse and easily breakable. Devon Rex cats moved to United States in late nineteen sixties, after their discovery early in that decade. By the mid eighties they had gained general acceptance amongst cat fanciers. As part of their development they were outcrossed with Burmese and American and British Shorthairs. Today they still remain one of the less common feline breeds.

Devon Rex cats have a deceptively slight body. They are well muscled and strong, weighing between six to ten pounds on average. Head is triangular and flat on top. Ears are big, low set on the skull and rounded at the tips. The big bright oval eyes are widely spaced and slope towards ears. Nose is slightly upturned. Fur is soft and curly and is seen in a number of colors and patterns including tabby, tortie, calico, smoke and solid. Hair break off easily and there are often bald patches seen on the body. Even the whiskers are curly and sometimes completely absent. Overall they are slender cats with an ethereal appearance, leading to them being called ‘pixie’ or ‘alien’ cats.

Devons often accumulate oil on their skin owing to their stunted hair that fail to absorb it. This alongside the accumulation of dust can lead to skin problems, and therefore requires periodic grooming and bathing of the cat. Also their large ears trap dirt readily and should be swabbed regularly. The short hair are beneficial in the sense that they don’t lead to a lot of shedding and are suited for people allergic to cats. However they do mean that the cats catch cold easily and look for warmth in the winter by snoozing on electronic equipments and cuddling under blankets. Owing to past inbreeding, some Devon lines carry occasional hereditary illnesses including cardiac myopathy.

Devon Rex’s personality is often considered to be a combination of a cat, dog and monkey’s attributes. They are more curious and inquisitive in their nature than most cats, are affectionate and easily trainable like dogs, and are athletic and possessive of an unusual fondness for high places like monkeys.

Cat Ringworm: an Owner’s Guide to Ringworm in Cats
cats and dogs
Ringworm in cats is caused by various fungal organisms.  Since cats less than a year old don’t have fully-developed immune systems, they are affected most often.  Cats with longer hair also have more problems with ringworm.  The condition is also very infectious as it can be transmitted to other cats, dogs, and even you.

Forms

As I mentioned earlier, cat ringworm is caused by various fungi.  They include Microsporum Canis, Microsporum Gypsum, and Trichophyton.  Most cats are affected by Microsporum Canis.  So, what are some of the symptoms you should look for?

Symptoms

This fungus dwells in your cat’s hair follicles.  This weakens the shafts which causes hair to fall out.  As the condition progresses, the hair loss will develop into circular patches usually on the head and limbs.  Your cat may also have dry, flaky skin that’s very itchy.

Diagnosis

There are multiple methods your veterinarian can diagnose this disease.  The easiest way is to use an ultraviolet lamp.  When exposed to this lamp, any fungus will glow a fluorescent green.  Another way to diagnose ringworm in cats is to remove a few strands of hair and ship them off to the lab.  The sample will sit for a while to see if any fungus grows.

Treatment

If left untreated, your cat will likely get rid of the condition himself in two to four months.  However, as I mentioned, the disease is very contagious and can transmitted to you and other animals.  So, it’s best to get it treated quickly.

One of the main methods used to treat cat ringworm is shampoo with lime sulfur.  The condition can also be treated with anti-fungal medications.  If your cat has long hair, you should clip it so the treatment regimen is more effective.  If you have more than one cat, you should take preventative measures and treat them also.

Choose the Right Pet. Cat, Dog or Something Else
cats and dogs
Choosing to bring a new pet into your home is never an easy fact. It’s not all about it’s price or type, but also it brings some new responsibilities to you - you have to take care of him.

First, you must ask yourself some serious questions: Why do you want to adopt a pet? Do you have time for a pet? Can you have a pet where you live? Can you afford a pet? Are you going to move soon? Do you have the right home for the pet you want? Are your children old enough for a pet? Do you have the financial resources for a pet at this time? Are you able to deal with any special problems that might come up with your new pet?

You must answer careful to these questions before choosing a pet.

When you think to get a new pet you think what type it should be. Well, the most common pets are cats and dogs. Some statistics shows that there are approximately 90 million owned cats and 73 million owned dogs just in the United States.

There seems to be more cats than dogs owned as pets. The main reason may be that cats are more easy to take care of than dogs. Cats are also more funny than any other pet. They have an amusing curiosity when you play with them. Every cat is a true individual. So it’s important to take the time to choose a four-footed friend who’s right for you. A cat’s personality, age, and appearance are all things you should keep in mind when making your selection.

But the fact is why you want a pet? For companion, entertainment or protection? If you need protection, of course you will choose a well trained dog as a pet, while, if you need some entertainment you’ll choose a cat. You should know until now that cats are the most funny pets.

But there is not only about cats and dogs. You may want an exotic pet like parrots, canaries (if you like to hear them singing),turtles, lizards, and other pets like fish, guinea pigs, hamsters, mice, rabbits, ponies or spiders.

If you want to impress your friends, you may choose an unusual pet like a spider or lizard. These pets must be kept in their own cages and you have to be very careful with them.

There are many places where you can get a pet. Pet shelters are the best idea, but you can adopt a pet from your friends or neighbors too.

If you want a real breed pet, you may choose to buy one, but you’ll see that many prices are around $500 to $1600. The easy way to get a pet is to adopt one. You can find them at animal shelters or rescue, or perhaps even a neighbor or friend.

Take care that owning a pet rise some important responsibilities for you.

1. You must feed him. There are many pet stores from where you can buy food for your pet. Some pets, like rabbits need vegetables and you have to provide them.

2. You must care of his health. Take your pet for regular check-ups from your local vet, and ensure you provide the required vaccination for him.

3. Keep a clean, fresh environment for you pet. It is necessary for your pet health. That’s obvious.

4. Take some time for your pet. You must take some time to play or just walk around with your pet. It’s very important for your new pet.

Things to consider before adopting a pet: how much space will be available for him, your expenses with him (food, care, vets etc), the time you will spend with your pet (the most important) and will he meet other pets of his kind? Good luck choosing a good pet.
